Finishing some smalls and a Question for you

Hello there! Isn't time just zooming by? The rainy season is upon us but it's still fairly warm for this time of year, or so they tell us. A lot of the trees are still fully clothed in their leaves.

I have started working on some finishing of smalls that I stitched earlier this year. (All is not lost, she has not given up fully on cross stitch yet!)

The first design is part of "Forget Me Not" by With Thy Needle and Thread. I only stitched part of the design. I finished it with a green chenille trim and two little "rosettes".

This next one is the Merry Christmas Hanging Sampler from Pineberry Lane. I love her designs!
Oops. I ran out of the little rusty bells! I guess having them one one side is ok, but no, I gotta get more bells so I can make it a "hanging" pinkeep, as per its namesake!
Lastly is the lovely Beggar's Christmas. I love the "Beggar's" series from Nan of Threadwork Primitives.
Hmmm. I think it's looking a little bare. Perhaps I need to add some chenille trim. What do you think? (Oh, that's not THE question.)
THE question of the day is, and I need your help with this - What type of lighting (e.g. lamps) do you use for your stitching?  I have been using a floor lamp version of the Ott-lite for probably 10 years. Just last week the bulb burnt out so I went back to Michaels where I had first purchased the lamp, and found that my model is no longer made, along with the bulbs! I searched online too and no luck.

So what lamp should I get? Another Ott-lite (newer model of the floor lamp) or what I've read recently, the latest and greatest - Stella (great but pricey)? I would love to hear what you use. Thanks in advance for your help.

Happy Stitching!

Hello,

I use a blub from the firm Daylight. I can do it in my Ikea lamp. The blub (Glühbirne) is not cheap. Ca. 15 Euro in Germany.

Your stitchery and finishes are great.

Greating

Great finishes! DON'T give up on cross stitching... you always do beautiful work! I have Ott lites all over my house! And the local craft stores (and probably online) always have coupons to use and get a 50% discount! Love the Stella & Me ones but... not the price!! Hugs!

Fabulous finishes that you have created! I use an Ott floor lamp by my stitching chair.

I don't think the last finish needs anything else added, I like the way it is.
I've used Ott lites in the past but currently I'm using a Daylight lamp and it's equally as good. It sits on a table at the side of me and the long arm reaches over my head. I've never heard of the Stella over here in the UK - I must do a web search and check it out.

Wonderful finishes. I love the
Beggar Series. I use just a plain old floor lamp with a 3-way bulb. it seems to work fine for me.

Yay! Some stitching finishes--how exciting, Melissa :) I just love them all and the first one is so, so sweet. What a cute design and such great colors.

As for the light--I just use a regular old Ott light floor lamp. I've had is about five years and am shocked that the bulb hasn't yet burned out. I had never heard of the Stella lamps, but they sure are pretty!

Hope your warm weather continues for a while :)

Great finishes Melissa! I use a floor style Ott-Lite lamp. Now I am worried. I better check my bulb and buy a backup if I can still find one. How disappointing!

Love your choices. No I wouldn't add the trim to Beggar and I'm sorry I can't help with the light question. I have the regular ceiling spots and table lamps. Maybe that's why the frog visits so often!

Great finishing, and I love your choices of stitching charts too. As for the floor light issue, I will say one thing. I have a daylight floor lamp -- and it's waaaaaayyyy too dim!!!! So I don't recommend Daylight. I suppose mine could be an exception, but it's definitely not as bright as either my Ott lights or my Stella.

Lovely finishes! I like the swirls of chenille on the corners of Forget Me Not. They're very cute.

Great finishes! I like the idea of chenille on the edges of pinkeeps.... or even some rick rack... I have an ott desk light and honestly don't think any of these "stitchers lights" are worth the price they charge. The stores have such a variety of daylight bulbs available now, I've been using the Philips daylight bulb in a regular lamp and it works just fine.

Again Melissa, your finishes are just fantastic!!! I love them all :)
I, not too long ago, bought a reading LED light from Ikea for £28... and it is perfect for stitching!! LED is just really bright, and the light is on a stand (very basic, nothing fancy) and stand behind my sofa and directly light my project. It's perfect for me. Cheap and should last a while... the only problem is that once the LED light dies, I cannot change it but still for £28, I am not complaining :D

Lovely work! I would recommend a Dazor floor lamp. I have had mine for thirty years and I love it. For a table lamp I love my Dorset model by Craftlite. I see Craftlite now has a floor model too, but I haven't seen it in person.

Love all your beautiful stitches!
I LOVE my Ott light floor lamp. I got it last year the weekend after Thanksgiving. YES Black Friday at Joann's. It was purchase a desk Ott lamp for $49.99 and get a Ott floor lamp for FREE reg value $249.99! Honest!! And I went that Sunday after Thanksgiving and not on that Friday. Our Joann's didn't sell them all right away. I got lucky. Just something to think about.

Beautiful stitching and finishing. I would go without trim for your Beggars piece. I use a Daylight lamp at the moment but if anything happens to that and I had to buy another then I would think of trying an OTT-lite.

Fantastic finishes!!! As for lighting, I upgraded to a 36 watt Ott-Lite floor stand the last time Jo-Ann's had a 50% off sale. I love it!!
