Sunshine! and Giveaway #1

Hello from a sun-splashed Vancouver! I can't believe it but we've finally got a stretch of sunshine, on a long weekend no less! I feel so much better! I've been out in the garden doing spring cleaning - the garden is "behind schedule" this year, probably by a month.

I will show you a few flowery photos and of course the Giveaway mentioned in the title, but first some stitching! Here is "Girl's Best Friend" by Birds of a Feather.

I love the smile on this little girl!
I so love this design and I don't even have a dog (but one might be in my 'far' future)!

I participated in a swap at Samplermakers and here is what I received from Marjorie. I asked for trim and I got lots! I love the old postcards too!

Here are some flowers from my garden. The first two are Hellebore or Christmas Rose. I bought the first one but I have no idea where the second one came from! The third photo is the first flower to bloom on my camellia bush.

So, I've decided to have multiple giveaways this month, probably three. Three to represent 300 followers (or thereabouts)! This is also my birthday month, and since I had missed a Blogoversary giveaway last fall...I've made up THREE reasons!

You will have to watch this space for subsequent giveaways. I will do drawings for all three at the end of April.

Here's what you need to do if you want to be included in this giveaway. #1 being the latest booklet from Blackbird Designs - For my Friend:

  1.  Leave a comment on this post only for Giveaway #1.
  2.  Make sure to include your name and contact info if it is not included in your blogger profile. Otherwise I won't be able to easily contact you.
  3. To add a little fun - please tell me one "unusual" thing you want to accomplish this year. It could be big or small.

OK. I'll tell you my "unusual" or out-of-the-ordinary thing I want to do this year and that is to take Art classes! Yup, that's it.  Not "climb a mountain" or anything like that but it's unusual for me.

Thank you for stopping by!  I'm back out to the garden this afternoon. Who knew there could be so much joy in WEEDING?!!! ;-)

Have a great week!

That is such a fun piece.
Not sure if anything I want to do is unusual, but I do want to make some whimsical folk art pieces this year and use more machine quilting.

What gorgeous things you received in your exchange package. I love the sewing pocket pattern.
Lovely cross stitch finish. The dog is cute:)
None of the things I would like to do are unusual although I wish I could learn how to take better pictures.

Your flower pictures are beautiful! Here in WI, even though we are ahead of schedule weather-wise, it will be a while before we see any like yours!

I would like to take Tae Kwan Do (sp?).

Love the BOAF piece. I do hope that a dog is in your future. I've never regretted making Emma and Owen part of my life.
Hmmm.... I must be a very dull person... nothing unusual, well unless you count returning to making quilts after an eighteen month hiatus?

What a great exchange! I see all kinds of people that I follow on blogger that are Samplermakers. Great group! I really like the flowers--gorgeous! One unusual thing that I already did this year is decide NOT to finish a BAP I was not enjoying! At first I thought I would just end it by stitching one last motif, then I just couldn't even bring myself to do that--so, I cut off the rest of the fabric and threw it away! I feel so free! It is not like me to do that, but life is Short!! I will be giving the chart away--now you will know which one it is if you follow my blog--the BAP! Hugs!

Oh I love your BOAF piece! So cute! I always think about a dog too, but for now I'll settle for Mia. There's no way she'd get along with a dog. lol! I think my unusual thing is to do a retreat. :D

I would love a chance for this giveaway. The one thing I would like to accomplish before the end of the year is to finally really organize my stash and have a huge online stash garage sale. maybe not so unusual, but I have been so disorganized for so long that it really is pretty unusual for me!
Thanks again for the chance!

Love BOaF and that piece sure is a cutie! I have been doing a bit of rearranging in my house and some penny pinching and will be purchasing a 60" television for my newly furnished living room. I am always spending my pocket money on my children, and so for the first time in a very long time I am buying something just for meeeeeeee! I am giddy with anticipation! This is shameless for me, but I feel like I deserve something special!

What pretty flowers! Yes, I'd love to be in on your drawing for the booklet!

I would like to accomplish a personal goal of exercising a little more each week and dropping a few pounds.

I'm sure I'll think twice once the heat of summer sets in, but you never know...
Thanks, Melody

And what a wonderful package you received form Marjorie~~~~ Those trims are awesome!!!!!

Also, congratulations on your 300 followers!!!!!!! I think the one thing I want to do this year is exercise everyday and not fall off the wagon!!!! I know this is nothing unusual, but keeping it going is not easy for me!!!!

Thanks for hosting this giveaway!!!! Happy birthday month!!!

What sweet flowers! You have such a green thumb! And I love your BOAF finish...very fun!

Great package for your swap too!

I'd love a chance at your giveaway. My personal goal right now is to start hosting events for the social group I am participating in. Everyone is clamoring for me to do it but it seems daunting! I'm getting there though. :)

Happy Birthday Melissa! You can celebrate the whole month:) Why not?
Love your blooms - very pretty.
Well as for something unusual for me to accomplish this year? It's very small but big for me. I want to visit the ocean. Haven't been able to get away in years....And I'm not all that far from the ocean either. That's my plan.

I would love to be included in your giveaway please. My goal would be I would love to lose lots of weight, the unusual part would have to be to try and keep it off!!

Thanks for your generous offering! Unusual? For me that would be organize, organize, organize. It is truly my goal this year.

Awesome, gorgeous flowers. I would love to be included in your giveaway. Speaking of "Girls Best Friend" my unusual thing for this year is to teach our kitty to walk on a leash so we can take her on walks with our Basset hound.

My most unusual thing I want to do this summer is to start to make some changes so I can get ready for the second half of my life, I am approaching 50 fast. Not to unusual but more a necessary revelation.

I love this little finish, I wish that they were still designing for cross stitch.
Congratulations on 300 followers.
I would love to be entered into your giveaway.
Hmmm an unusual thing..drive my husband's powerwagon. I have not ever driven it.

Carol said...

Awww...such an adorable finish! I love how the little girl has her head laying on her best friend's back... You can just feel the love :)

Well, of course I'd love to enter your giveaway, Melissa. One "unusual" thing I'd like to accomplish is to go on a long bike ride with my husband. That doesn't sound so unusual, but my husband is an avid biker--bikes 100+ miles a weekend and he's always wanting me to at least try a shorter ride with him. At this point, I don't even own a bike... so that is my goal. Hope I can accomplish it :)

Have a great week, Meliss, and thanks for the fun!

Oh Melissa, what a generous giveaway! And I love how your Girl's Best Friend came out!! :)

My big unusual project this year? I want to learn how to properly garden - I'm going in on a veggie garden with two friends, both of whom are experienced, and hoping for a bounty to carry me through the fall and into winter. :)

For my unusual thing, I am hoping to try Ziplining while on vacation later this year!

My unusual thing this year is participating in an Advent exchange with another stitcher. I've never done one before and find myself thinking "would my exchange partner like that?"
It's a good thing.

Please include me in your giveaway.

Great exchange. I've heard about those exchanges but never participated. They look like fun. Love your girls best friend. Quirky and fun!

Unusual thing? I'm not sure - maybe stitch some small things this year? I never stitch small things so that would be very unusual for me. Thanks for the giveaway.

I'd love to be entered in your draw!

Hmmm what's one strange thing I want to do this year? Well I had planned on doing a tandem sky dive last year for my 35th and didn't do it... so I suppose I should get on that for my 36th bday (last month!).

Your BoaF stitch is adorable! I hadn't seen this one before.
I would love to be included in your giveaway. It's wonderful of you to do this!
Unusual, hmmmm.... I don't think anything I do is all that exciting or unusual but I am planning on trying to get my boating license this year. My hubby has been after me for awhile now. He really wants me to learn how to drive the boat. I'm afraid I'll like it too much, lol!

Aw...such a cute little piece:) You must have been so excited to received such a wonderful assortment of things from Marjorie! Lovely pictures of your flowers in bloom.

I would love to be included in your Giveaway #1. Hmmm....One unusual thing that I would love to do this year, is to have a 'Stitch To Your Heart's Content' getaway. Just stitching with other stitchers on whatever our hearts desire for a couple of marvelous, relaxing days together.

Cute BOAF finish! I don't ever remember seeing that one before. Things are starting to come to life in gardens here and it is so good to see. Mind you, I really need to get out there and do some weeding (can you send me some of your 'joy' in weeding - it would be much appreciated!!!!). Would love to be entered in your giveaway. Given the boring, samey life I have I'm hard-pressed to come up with something unusual I'd like to accomplish this year but in going with the gardening theme I'd love to master the art of vegetable growing in pots and containers! So far I've failed miserably in any attempt.

Stitching and gardening--you can't go wrong! Maybe not unusual, but I want to learn to knit socks. I have no clear idea why, but I have a vision of me in super socks that I've made myself. Thanks for the giveaway--I love BBD.

Melissa, I LOVE THOSE FLOWERS!!! One of these days, you HAVE to take pics of your full garden, just for me, hehehehe.

Congrats on Girl's Best Friend. It's so cute!!!

Happy Birthday month!! I'm going to pass on the giveaway, but can I play?? My unusual thing for the year is something I've been planning on for awhile.... a trip home to Malaysia. :D

I need to get my eyes checked.... I read WEEDING as WEDDING and was like... you didn't talk about wedding in this post..... ROFLL!!!

Karoline said...

Cute finish, congratulations

I'm struggling to think of anything unusual that I have planned. The only thing is I'm hoping to start volunteering at my local coffee shop when Christopher starts playgroup in September.

I love that little BOAF doggie! I wish they were still designing (whomever "they" are) I just love the quirkiness of their designs.
As always, your flowers are gorgeous and I'm always surprised at how much earlier yours bloom than our do.

The thing I'd like to do this year is be able to run a 1/2 marathon by fall. Not sure I'll get there but my dad, who is 76 will be running a full marathon this fall. If he can do that, I should be able to do a 1/2. We'll see. Not very unusual a goal perhaps but a personal stretch for me.
I'd love to have my hat tossed in the ring for your lovely giveaway. Thanks for the chance!

You enjoy weeding?!? Yikes, I live in southern Ohio. Come on down and I'll put you to work! It's a never ending job.
I would love to be entered in your awesome giveaway.
I am wanting to paint a floor cloth for my entryway. That is unusual in the sense it has been about 15 years since I have painted a floorcloth, so I keep dragging my heels. I've gotta jump in and do it.
Have a great day and congrats on 300 followers. I always check in, just am very quiet.

Weeding the leftovers from last autumn - that's what I was doing for several days at the end of March. And you are right, when the sun is shining it's not that bad. But I have to admit that I'd rather sit on my deck chair and read, lol.
This little animal series by BoaF is so cute.
