Secrets of the Smokin' Needles

Here's another finish for this week: Friends with You, from the booklet "My Heart is True" by Blackbird Designs and Nicoletta Farrauto.

This is another one I've wanted to stitch for a long time so I can now cross another one off the list. I'm sure I will get tired of the smaller designs and get back to the bigger pieces soon but for now, this is working out!

So. Someone mentioned something about my smokin' needles last week. Here are my "secrets":
  • Smaller designs
  • More time because I am not working too much right now
  • The biggest "secret"? I'm stitching on 28 count linen!  I have been using up smaller pieces of 28 count linens kicking around as I've been stitching with 36 count for awhile now. Now that I'm on these larger counts, I can see & stitch so much better! No kidding! Not sure if this means I'll be giving up on 36 count but my eyes sure are happier!
So the secrets aren't really anything surprising, are they?
I'll end this post with an orchid in bloom at present. The shape of it reminds me of the center flower in the piece above.
Thank you for visiting and I really enjoyed all the comments from last week! No surprise that I get the most comments when I have more stitching to show! ;-)

Oh, one last thing, check out this cute video. It will surely put a smile on your face!

Have a wonderful week!

What a beautiful finish! I don't remember this one and I love it 0f course. I love BBD. lol! That's interesting about the 28ct. Do you use magnifiers? ie drugstore glasses?? My eyes started getting worse and the only way I can do 40ct now is to use magnifiers on top of my glasses. When I started stitching on 40ct some years ago, I didn't need them. Just a thought. Love that flower too btw. So pretty!

That's such a pretty finish and I don't remember that design either. I'll have to rummage through my things and see if I have it. That is a great idea about the 28 count. I must have scads of that around here that I never thought that I'd use again. But I can see how is would be easy to do over ones on that fabric.

I'm really having a hard time on 40 count, so maybe this is what I should use!

What a sweet little finish!! I agree 28ct is SO much kinder on the eyes and allows for faster finishes. I am stitching on 36ct with my current project right now and I have to take many breaks.

As much as I LOVE 36ct and 40ct I am going to have to start stitching on larger counts even 32ct might be better. And that video DID put a smile on my face, too cute =)

It's so pretty! You really tempt me with your finishes and I don't stitch near as fast as you do!

I've recently been stitching on 35 count and find that when I switch to 32 count I get on much quicker. I wear glasses with a prescription tailored for stitching and even then it's hard going. I love the way the orchid has the beautiful deep colouring in the centre of the flower.

Your lovely Blackbird Designs finishes are really inspiring me.
What a gorgeous finish this one is.
I've had the design kitted up for a long time now and think it has to jump to the top of the want to do list.
I think stitching looks every bit as lovely on 28 ct as 40 ct and it makes good sense to use up what you have.

Beautiful stitching on a lovely springtime piece! The colors are so pretty. Love the orchid. I would love to have more houseplants, but can't keep the cats out of them. What a sweet video. :)

Wonderful finish, Melissa, regardless of the count! I too have a difficult time stitching on higher count fabrics. The sampler I'm currently working on is 36 count and I use my glasses and a magnifier. Even going down to 32 count makes a difference in how quickly I stitch and the strain on my eyes. I have to keep reminding myself that it's not a race! These smaller designs would be a great way to use some of the 28 count fabric I have in my stash. Also would be a great way to practice my finishing "skills".

Loved the video of the little boy! Absolutely adorable!!!

Have a great week, my friend!

What a beautiful finish. I love the colors. So soft and springy! I find that the higher counts do slow down my productivity too. I think it's fun to whip out a small every once in a while just for fun.

Wonderful finish! Love BBD.
I love anything under 28count fabric too. So much easier on the eyes. However, I've found with blogging that I am moving towards the 40 count fabrics instead of the other way around. Drats!
Love the video. That little guy is a born performer! Too cute. Thanks for sharing!

What a beautiful design! I don't recall having seen it before, but love all of the BBD designs. Your stitching is lovely.

What a pretty orchid! Love that adorable little 2 year old dancing up a storm. He reminds me of our 2 year old grandson, who loves to dance too!

Pretty, pretty finish! I love it!

So that's your secret! I must pull out some of my 28ct and see if it helps me stitch any quicker. My eyes seem to be going downhill pretty quickly. I can't even imagine stitching on 36 or 40ct. I do have some 36 ct for an upcoming project and the heavy duty magnifiers are coming out for that one, lol!

Beautiful finish Melissa!! Are you going to be framing this or finishing it into a small?! Maybe you can tell me when we meet up!!! I'm looking forward to seeing you!!! Gorgeous orchid! Too bad my apartment isn't a good habitat for orchids. I've tried but they just die so I don't bother now since they are too expensive to keep buying!!

As always, love the finish, large or small. Sometimes a smaller finish is just what we need. That video certainly did bring a smile to my face! Isn't he cute.

Hello! Friends With You is Gorgeous!
Great finish. I just received this booklet last week. Glad I bought it now:) Your orchid is beautiful! Nothing wrong with 28ct. I'm currently stitching on that. Yep it is much easier on my eyes. I do enjoy using a variety of different cross stitching count fabrics.
