A New Start for 2011

Hello, all you happy and crazy stitchers! Crazier still if you are in the January Crazy Challenge, or some variation of it. I'm enjoying seeing all these wonderful starts. It's a real test to the ole' willpower though because I am seeing lots that I think I want to start! Noooooo!

I did start on a new piece - Lo, How a Rose sampler by Brightneedle. You can see Lee's beautiful finish here

Gosh, now that I look at Lee's, my version looks so faded! I am using the recommended over-dyed WDW floss, on 35 ct WDW "Linen" linen. The colours are a bit brighter than the photo is showing. I am enjoying this one.

Even though I've had 2 weeks off work, I've scaled back my stitching and even computer time. My neck and back are feeling better just because I've given it rest and  not driving and sitting on the computer all day helps too. Slowly, but surely!

Speaking of which, back to work tomorrow (collective groan here) which also means lots of stuff I have to do today!  I will leave you with a couple of photos of the kitties over the holidays - Julius, snoozing happily and Daisy doing what she loves best - hiding!

Hope you are enjoying the start of a new year! Thanks for stopping by! Have a wonderful week!

I think the colors in Lo look fine! I've seen all versions of it. Cute kitties, and don't you just hate the end of vacation?

Gorgeous new start Melissa! That was one of my favourite 2009 finishes. Mine looked a little faded too with the WDW, but it's such a pretty piece.

Great photos of Julius and Daisy! I must share some more of our two soon, I keep forgetting to pull them off the camera.

Glad your neck and shoulder are a bit better!

Love your start on 'Lo'. Lee and I were doing a SAL but sadly I fell too far behind. Must pull it out again as I am inspired. Happy New Year!

Hi Melissa - I hope you enjoy stitching Lo as much as I did! (I think I stitched it in 2009!)

I'm off today too and return to work tomorrow. :(

Thanks for the shout out! Remember, I took my photo outside and that makes the colors pop a little more. And the dye lots of those WDW threads and fabrics are so variable!

Have fun stitching this pretty pattern! This is one I've had for awhile and still haven't managed to stitch. I like your colors. They make the piece soft looking and antique.

Excellent new start! I like the colours, I don't think they look faded at all. It's going to be pretty when it's done.

I really love this one, Melissa! Glad to hear that you're feeling better and your kitties look like they feel pretty darn comfortable, too--they're just beautiful :)

Love your Lo so far. It's beautiful! Glad to hear your neck and back are doing better. I hope going back to work doesn't make them worse again. Love the kitty pics. Mia varies in terms of whether she hides or is in someone's lap. I think mostly she just wants to be where it's warm. lol!

I love Lo and bought the book a couple of years ago when I first started seeing it. It (like most things you do) is on my short list!

Love the kitty pics!

Good luck with going back to work and I hope you continue to feel better and better!

Oh, seeing Lo is giving me chills. I think that is one of the prettiest samplers, and one that I keep meaning to do, but....well.....you know how it is. One nice thing about seeing your start and so many others on blogs this month has made me make a list of all the wonderful things that I've forgotten about and would love to stitch. Oh, if I only had a little more time!

Glad to hear you're taking it easy on your neck/back, Melissa. I know it's hard to ease off when doing something so enjoyable as stitching.

Just loving that Lo sampler! I don't recall seeing it. Colours look yummy and the design seems very pretty. Such a gorgeous one to start the year off - good choice!

And those adorable kitties:) Nice to see them in your update.

I love your Lo, Melissa! Great start. :) I used the suggested colors on mine and I always find with Bright Needle that the colors look faded when you're working on them, but when you step back, they are SO pretty.

Love the cat pics! :)

Your new start is lovely, I tried to buy the design last year but failed miserably. I believe it's in a book that was published but couldn't find it anywhere. Can you remember where you bought it Melissa?

Love the new start, very pretty colours.

Beautiful kitties and a fantastic start!

I've been looking for this pattern for a while now after seeing it on another blog sometime ago, though I don't know which BH&G book it is in... can you let me know so I can continue my search? Many thanks in advance.

Your new start is beautiful, lovely colours!

I hope the work starts smoothly for you, I'm enjoying the last days off now. Have a happy end of the week!

I hope your first week back to work wasn't too awful and went pretty smoothly. And that it wasn't bad for your neck and back. For me it's tomorrow and I'm not looking forward to it. But who is after a nice long vacation? LOL.
What a nice new start you have for the new year. I have seen this project on different blogs and it looks terrific. Enjoy stitching it.
