Tis the Season

...to be Joyous because I have finished this sweet design.
 Tis the Season
from the Joyeux Noel book
by Blackbird Designs

I made small changes. The original design has "Tis the season to be jolly". Now the word "jolly" conjures up a Santa Claus with a great big jiggly belly. As much as I love Santa, I thought the word "joyous" more appropriate to this elegant design. I also added those 3 little diamonds at the end. I tweaked a few small things but generally the design stays true to the original. I used the recommended Belle Soie silks on Pear linen by Lakeside. I did substitute "Butterscotch" for "Scarecrow" in the silk as the latter wasn't showing up very well against the linen.

I am happy I have one thing done with a Christmas theme!

Next up is this - any guess?

You can see a beautiful framed piece on Tanya's post. When I saw it, I knew I had to stitch it. This is 1854 Isabella Johnstone sampler, in the Summer 2010 issue of the Sampler and Antique Needlework (SANQ) magazine. I am using the recommended Belle Soie silks, some of which are leftovers from Tis the Season project above, on 35 ct WDW Parchment linen. I am really enjoying stitching this piece but will probably have to put it aside soon as I wait for the full order of silks to arrive in the post.

I am always inspired by what Tanya is stitching. Therefore, I am really excited that she has reproduced Jane Tindall 1864, which you can see on her post here.   A photo of Jane appeared  in the same SANQ issue as Isabelle above, in an article talking about cows in needlework! Even back then I had loved this sampler so I was so happy that I get to stitch it now!

Thank you so much for your compliments about my blog.  You were all so gracious!  They really made my day and encourage me to keep on going!

A reminder that the blogoversary giveaway ends tonight, so please go to this post if you have not already done so.  I have a busy week with work deadlines coming up so you may not hear from me till next weekend about who won the giveaway.

In the meantime, I hope you have a wonderful week ahead.  Happy Stitching!

Tis the Season is beautiful! I love the red cardinal. And you were absolutely right about switching the wording. "Joyous" seems so much more suitable for such a classy design.

Gorgeous finish Melissa, great work! I like how you used the word joyous instead of jolly - I wish I'd thought of that when I did mine ;)

Gosh that is pretty, Melissa!! Love your color change and also swapping the word to joyous...I just might opt to do that too. This is one I really would like to have done for Christmas, at least one year very soon! lol

Have a great week, I have been 'tardy' about visiting, hope to do better in the future!

Oh my! I loooove your changes!!! You're so right -- joyous is so much nicer for this piece. Beautiful finish! As for your next start -- I knew what it was practically immediately! lol! I'm like you, Tanya always inspires me. I love everything she stitches. I want to stitch Isabelle and Jane Tindall both. I'm hoping I can restrain myself and have Jane be my only market purchase, but I have a feeling one or two other things might sneak home to me. lol!

Hello dear Melissa! I am determined to find time to re-enter our little blogging world and check-in on friends and actually post myself soon. School has become all consuming, which is quite draining.

I love your finish and the changes are just perfect - I like joyous vs. jolly. Your new start is on my list as well - and Jane, isn't she beautiful. Tanya is my idol, lol!

Enjoy your week, Melissa.

Those are some very sensible and very beautiful changes you made to Tis the season and if I ever get around to stitching it (the silks are in my possession already) I think I might steal your idea...

Gorgeous gorgeous finish!
Now that've mentioned it "jolly" does bring the fat man to mind more than an elegant bird! lol!

I just love that pattern. What a wonderful finish! And I love the word change. You're right, joyous is much better than jolly on this piece.

Can't wait to see more progress on Isabella. I got that issue of SANQ after I saw her on Tanya's blog, too.

Hope you're having a great week!!

Oh my gosh, how did I miss this post????? Geesh, so sorry!
I LOVE your Tis the Season and how you stitched that bird, gorgeous!
Really wonderful!
I knew right away which sampler that was, Isabella...as I'd seen it on Tanya's blog and had to get the magazine because of that! So it's sitting on my coffee table, with the fabric and all of the glorious silks and waiting for me to start her!! I'll be looking forward to seeing your progress, for more inspiration!

Beautiful finish, I love this design. I love the changes you have made as well.

Nice new start. Tanya has inspired me to buy many, many charts. Although your stitching has inspired me too, especially all your lovely BoAF pieces.
