The Spell is Broken

I was on a reading binge, enjoying the Millennium Trilogy, as you saw on my last post. Then all it took was a couple of not-so-great books and the reading spell was broken. I couldn't find anything that could keep my attention, despite a stack of books available. Oh well, that just opened the window back to stitching.  And back to the needle I went!

Here's the silver lining:
Mary's Best Handworke, by With Thy Needle and Thread. Finished! Ta-da.   It took me two months to finish it and I'm so happy it's done!

After that I got back some of my stitching groove, so I went back to an older piece from May. This is how I left Salina Dunwoody, with a bunch of stitches to be frogged.

And here is how Salina looks today - much much prettier!

Hmmm, I just noticed the photos look very different in colour. I would say the first photo of Salina shows more of the colours in real life.

And if you are thinking "Gee, she must not be so busy at work if she is stitching again", you'd be absolutely right. "Feast or Famine" as they say when you are doing free-lance work.

Last time I showed you photos of Daisy. Now, I must give equal time to Mr Julius.  He is a pretty rumbunctious cat and the first  one shows him in true form. The other two, well, you can't blame a cat for wanting to chill out in the summer heat.
The photo above shows three of my favourite things - Mr Julius, cross stitch and books.

I love this last photo even though it's a bit fuzzy. Julius is tucked in under a chair in my room, in his little Buddha-cat pose. So sweet.

That's all for now. Thank you for stopping by! Have a wonderful week ahead!

Salina is looking ever so nice since her little frogging, and Mary's Best IS the best--two months isn't bad! I know what you mean about the books. I have several new books, both purchased and from the library, and I just have lost interest. What cutie-pie kitties!

And what a beautiful silver lining indeed! Gorgeous stitching, and I love the photos :) I haven't done my usual summertime reading this year...but I have lots of great knitting to show for time instead ;)

Your Mary finish is fabulous, Melissa--I truly love it! The result was well worth your two months of hard work...

I enjoyed seeing your samplers on the wall behind Mr. Julius (love that paint color, too!!). And he is certainly one handsome kitty. I always loved it when my old cat rested in the Buddha pose--so sweet!

Congratulations on your finish - it is lovely. Glad you've got your stitching mojo back. Lovely WIPs. Gorgeous pictures of the cats especially standing on the banister.

Oh Salina is amazingly beautiful, Melissa!! I can't wait to see more of that. Your Mary finished is such a neat and pretty sampler, congrats on that. And Mr Julius is one adorable and you can tell, very loved kitty! Give him a head rub from me!

Your cats are too cute! Julius reminds me of my two beloved cats, Butterscotch & Sunshine. :) Happy memories.

Salina looks great! Congrats on finishing Mary! I need to get back to mine.

Bummer about the book spell being broken! I read Grissom's The Kitchen House & enjoyed that. I also just finished Karen White's On Folly Beach. Her books are always enjoyable.

Great stitching Melissa! I love Mary's Best! Such a happy, fun sampler, the colors are so nice.

Your Julius (perfect name) is so handsome, love him. We had an orange kitty, actually he was considered a Buttercream...his name was Chester. I say this all the time, but seriously, he was the best cat that we ever had...loved him immensely! Anyway, love the picture of Julius with your stitching and books in the background!

Well, hope your dry spell gets a little better. I'm sure you're enjoying the break but know the $$ is nice when one has work to do.
Thinking of you....

xoxo

PS. the word verification is "andre"...isn't that funny?

Another gorgeous finish, Melissa! Mary's Best is wonderful - love the colors!! Salina is looking awesome as well!

Julius is a very pretty kitty and looks like he is one fun guy to have around!

Hope work turns back into a feast soon (if that's what you want)! You did great things with your down time though so I'd be thrilled!

Congratulations on your pretty finish, girlfriend!

I've yet to read the Larsson books, but I do have the first two on hand and will start them sometime soon. I have a feeling that after such intense reads anything else seems a little lackluster in comparison! I love that top sampler--it's gorgeous. And the kitty is pretty darn cute, too! Hope you're having a great summer.

Congratulations on the finish! It is just soooo pretty! Love your Salina Dunwoody too. I need to stitch both of those! Someday maybe? lol!

Your kitties are so cute! Mr. Julius definitely seems to still be a kitten at heart! My oh my! What a perch! lol! I think my kitten Mia will start to look up to him -- I'd better not show her the picture! :D

Yay!! Glad to see you got your groove back!Mary's Best looks wonderful and so does Salina so far! Sorry to hear about the job front! =( I hope something else comes along for you soon. Please give Mr. Julius a snuggle from me...he is such a cutie! I am not the biggest cat person but orange tabbies and calicos make my heart twinge!

Congrats on finishing Mary - it is beautiful! I love the colours in it, all that red is very eye-catching. Salina is looking good too.

Mr Julius is a very handsome fellow. It looks like he finds all the best spots for mischief and relaxing :-)

I love Mary's Best Handworke! What a beautiful sampler you stitched, and Salina is looking pretty too!

Mr. Julius is gorgeous! One of our kitties looks similar to him, and he is such a sweetheart!

Congratulations on regaining your stitching mojo Melissa! Your Mary's Best finish is gorgeous and you're making great progress on Salina after all the ripping.

Mr Julius is a cutie, I'd love a ginger cat, but our two are enough of a handful right now ;)

Great to see you stitching up a storm again, Melissa! Mary's turned out wonderful and so much work has gone into it. Congrats! You've also put some hours in with Salina too and it looks terrific so far.

Julius looks like a happy and contented cat. Great condition he looks in too. Very well looked after, I'm sure.

It's a pity your work has dropped off but it does let you catch up on some needlework, which is good.

Thanks for the email, always a pleasure to read. Enjoy the nice weather you're getting and have fun with your stitching moments.

Oh Melissa, what a wonderful finish! And so much progress on Salina. I'm glad to see that your stitching mojo is completely back.
Here's the same. And I know what you mean about books that are not good enough to keep you reading. Isn't it the same with stitching and reading - whenever you don't like a piece you stitch on or read a book that you don't really love you stop at one point and lean on a different hobby. I was having a hard time with my last book and when it was finished I went over to stitching and I'm deep into it again, lol. Enjoy your new-found stitching mojo!

Congratulations on your finish! Nice progress on Salina as well. I know how you feel with your reading. It's taken a very long time for me to finally get back into reading. Today the local discount supermarket had a sale on paperbacks and I have stocked up on a few.

I just found your blog, and I love your samplers. Earlier this year I went thru some medical difficulties and picked up reading to "escape" and dropped my stitching. Reading blogs like yours is what brought me back!

It is good to see you stitching again and look forward to seeing what you make. Your kitties are like mine, one is into something, one is sleeping. They take turns harassing me and getting into mischief.

Nice work on the stitching and what a doll Julius is! Loved that pic with the cat, stitching, and books!

I hate that the reading spell is broken. I've had that happen too. It stinks. The Millennium Trilogy is on my list to read. I have the first one, but haven't cracked the spine yet. I have been caught up in The Hunger Games trilogy. Very good reads! I think they fall in the young adult fiction category, but I love YA fiction, and these have had me absolutely hooked. :)

Mary's Best Handworke is gorgeous! Nice progress on Salina too. :)

Always enjoy seeing Daisy and Julius make an appearance on your blog. :)
