One Stitch at a Time

A New Start:

And here's some more:

And here is what it will look like one day soon:

A Very Fine Sampler
By Birds of a Feather

I have had this chart for many, many years. I always put it off because it felt too 'big'. Well, now that I've been stitching for awhile this no longer feels too 'big' so I jumped right in. I am using all the recommended fibers (Weeks floss and BOAF Barn Owl linen).  The colours are just wonderful and I'm really enjoying stitching this one!

Yesterday brought an exchange received from Marie. It is a pinkeep using a Mary Garry design.

It is beautifully stitched and finished. I love it. Thank you so much, Marie!

I am still waiting to hear from my exchange partner for the pinkeep exchange so hopefully I will be able to show it to you in the next post.

The weather has been really wacky. The cherry trees have been blooming but the last few days have brought some chilly weather, followed by rain this morning, followed by sunshine. Who knows what's next?

Thank you for all your comments about "Be Kind and Be True" (SAL with Jane) and all your well wishes for me to find some good work soon. It's working! I can't divulge details yet as they haven't been finalized so I am keeping my fingers crossed!
Hope you are enjoying the week and that warmer Spring-like weather is chasing the snow away!

I am going to leave you with a link to a very funny video. Even if you don't have a dog, you'll love it.  Enjoy!

What a lovely start on "A Very Fine Sampler," Melissa. You always pick pieces with the loveliest colors!

Great video, too--I'm amazed that the dog was so patient and just didn't scarf down all the treats at once :)

What a great chart to stitch!! You are super fast!!! Have so much done already~~~

Marie's pinkeep is beautiful!!!!! She really did a great job!!!

Oh how funny! I saw the first photo and said to myself, I remember seeing this...amongst a big plant and loved the scale of little houses and big plant.

Why does it look so familiar?!

And then it clicked, "duh, I just ordered it yesterday!" lol You've turned me into a BOAF fiend! I want to stitch Bloom Where You Are Planted. I think it'll make me feel better. Of course, that one is the one backordered out of the three! Boo =(

I look forward to seeing your progress on AVFS! Because, you know...I'll be doing it very soon too hopefully! lol

Love the pinkeep from Marie...she does great stuff!

Fingers crossed for you too...

OMG, that video had me laughing out loud, too funny! I gotta email to some friends, they'll love it!

Your Very Fine Sampler is coming along nicely! I loved stitching that one. It did turn out pretty big, even though I did it on 36 ct. But it's a gorgeous design :-)

Keepin' my fingers crossed for you on the job thing, hope it all pans out in your favor!

Love the MG pinkeep Marie stitched for you. Your sampler is looking very fine too!

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you Melissa! I keep seeing these old BOAF pieces coming to light again. It makes you wonder why you didn't collect them when they came out. Truthfully, I don't even remember seeing them. But I think it's always fun to realize that something you purchased years ago you still like and want to stitch.

And the pinkeep is wonderful too! Finished off beautifully!

What a great video! I brought Rob and the boys in to watch it and it's the most Ty has laughed in about a week - thank yoU!

Your stitching is fabulous Melissa; I love this pattern and will really enjoy watching your progress! Great pinkeep you got - anything with Mary Gary is lovely!

Keeping fingers crossed for your job!

What a beautiful exchange piece you received! Lucky girl!

Your sampler is looking wonderful, Melissa! It's got that real aged look to it. The way you're stitching it'll be finished in no time. Well before you're due to go back to work.

The exchange piece is pretty too. Well worth going back to pick it up!

Oh wow! Beautiful start on that piece! I love the colors! Who would have thought that there was so much detail in the bottom part of that sampler? I love the pinkeep you received too! Yay on the job search! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Love the sampler you are working on. And that gift is beautiful. I might try a smaller count to see how I do, I really like the tighter look of cloth than the big holes i use.

I love your WIP...always loved this design. Very pretty exchange too. Love the design and finishing.

Oh now, Melissa, there's no need to be afraid of those big, bad samplers! Just put your big girl panties on and stitch away.

Woooow, that is a lovely, lovely sampler. I still think it qualifies as rather big, though :o)

Lovely exchange gift from Marie! But what's keeping the mail from delivering mine???

WOW, Melissa ..."A Very Fine Sampler" is so wonderful!!! Great start :)
I fell in love in this sampler :)))

Siobhan said...

Wow, Melissa--to quote Evik! ;) Wow! I just love it. I have that BOAF chart (I love me some BOAF!) but haven't stitched it. I don't think the cover picture really zinged me. But I've now been zanged and wow. I love it--great pics. Great start. The exchange piece from Marie is lovely, too! Fantastic finishing!

Best of luck with the job stuff. Fingers crossed.

Like you, I've got this in my stash and have had for a while. Like you, I would look at it and think about it but not get to it. Well, here we go again, seeing yours just makes me look at it in a completely different light so could be this one will be going on my 'have to stitch this year' list.

What a lovely pinkeep, sweet MG design.

Keeping fingers, toes and everything else crossed that the job works out.

I love the Mary Garry pinkeep! Such a beautiful finish and an interesting shape.

Nice start to your BOAF sampler!

Hi Melissa! I love your WIP - there so much detail that I never saw - that big flower just dominates the cover.

Your exchange is just lovely - I definitely want to stitch that little piece.

Praying that all the details will fall into place for this new job opportunity - enjoy your week.

Lookin' good. The large (to me; I think it was a Quarter) piece of Barn Owl I just ordered was completely flat--no colour variation at all! I think yours looks better.

What a cute shape that pynkeepe is!

Love your new start!!! BOAF designs are so pretty.

The pinkeep is adorable, Marie does the most gorgeous pieces :-).

The pinkeep is awesome, lucky you!
I am waiting to hear my pinkeep arrived too.

That's gorgeous--I love just about everything BOAF designs! I'm also reluctant to start really big projects as I know how bad I am finishing them. I hope to finis something this weekend so I can start something new too! :) This looks like a fun project--enjoy! (danielle-The Peacock's Feather)

LOVE your BoaF AVFS start!! I've had my eyeballs on that one for a long time, myself. Do tell... Where on earth did you find the Barn Owl fabric?? Please tell me there is still somewhere you can buy it, and that you didn't just have it in your stash... please?

Cute pinkeep, too. Yay for you!! :)

Can't wait to hear what's up on the job front!!! :D

Hi Melissa, I hope your Saturday is as sunny as ours! Your new start is beautiful, as always :) Happy stitching, it will be great to wait for more progress photos to come!

Oh the pinkeep is adorable! Marie does wonderful job. I was lucky to have her as a partner for a year in a seasonal exchange and I still think of her every day when I use the gorgeous stitching accessories she sent me :)

The dog video was too funny, I have to show it to kids too :)

Congratulations on finishing the Be Kind and Be True sampler! The exchange for Annemarie is so pretty too, a perfect finish! Thanks for the link, I printed the chart right away.

Ok, now I'm off to check the cake in the oven, we just baked with my daughter :) Have a wonderful weekend and talk to you soon again!
