The Stitching Year that was - 2009

The record keeping side of me wants to have one place to see all my finishes for 2009, hence this post, right next to the one yesterday when I thought that would be the last one. Then I saw that Su is having a 'year in review party', so I hope I can set up the link correctly. Regardless, here are the photos. I am embarrassed to tell you I don't know how to do the collage thing yet. Ah-well...

I have enjoyed stitching each one of them. This year I discovered audio books which helped to compel me to keep stitching. Sometimes I can look at a piece and remember what the story I was listening to while I stitched it. After I posted the photos above, I attempted to fill in what I think I was listening to at the time and it sure brought back memories!

At the beginning of last year I had never participated in exchanges or any group 'things'. I got over zealous with signing up for more things than I could handle! But here are a few of the things I stitched for exchanges.

HOE Valentine Exchange

HOE Quaker Winter Exchange

Prairie Schooler Exchange

Another Prairie Schooler Exchange

SBBC Exchange

I started 2009 with a few designs I'd wanted to stitch. Guess what? I didn't stitch any of them! I've discovered I'm so easily swayed by what I either see on other blogs, or what's new, or just plain "what do I feel like today?" So, I won't list any designs down. I do hope to stitch a couple of bigger designs (remember 'size' is all relative!) in 2010.

I'm off to enjoy the last day of the year! I hope you will too. See you again soon!

I love how you have a book title linked to every piece you've stitched! I don't listen to audiobooks, but I sometimes remember TV shows I've "watched" whilst stitching a particular piece.

You've had some wonderful finishes, looking forward to seeing loads more in the coming year.

So much accomplished in a year! I enjoy listening to audiobooks too, but also watch lots of tv while stitching. I did actually buy "The Help", reading it late in the summer and really enjoyed it.

Oh, I love all your finishes! So beautiful! And to remember what you were listening to while stitching -- I'd have to look up in my journal for that! lol! Audiobooks are the best, aren't they? I like to pick up actual books as well, but audiobooks are so motivating for my stitching. Have a wonderful New Year! I'm so glad we got to know each other!

Beautiful finishes Melissa!! I love them all! And you've framed some - my goal for 2010! You are definitely an inspiration to me!! :)

P.S. When I see something I've stitched I can usually remember what I was listening to when I stitched it. It's funny how they are forever tied together.

So many amazing finishes you've done in 2009! Along with Su, my favourite is Family Sampler (I just love Jill Rensel's mat too!).

Have a drink for me when you reach 2010 - we're already in the next decade here! Happy New Year and may it be healthy and creative for you.

Wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing your 2009 stitching accomplishments. I didn't get to meet you until late in the year, so it was a pleasure to view all of your beautiful samplers.
I'm looking forward to seeing what you'll accomplish in 2010.
I'm another fan of Audible and most of my stitching for the past couple of months has been accompanied by The Outlander series.

Outstanding work Melissa, it is so wonderful to scroll down and see all the beautiful items you have created in 2009. It makes one wonder how much time was spent and how many stitches were completed in one whole year. You must have a million and one!! I have to admit you have some samplers I would absolutely love to stitch. Thanks for displaying your work of art for all to see....I am so inspired by your blog. Have a wonderful New Year!!!!

Congratulations on all your beautiful finishes! I haven't set any real goals this year, I am just going to see where the year takes me.

Happy New Year!!

I like this format better than a slideshow or other stuff, personally. My favorite is your PS exchange--loved that when I first saw it--was it on the PS blog or on the recipient's blog? Idk.

I'd like to try listening to some books, but more than half of the ones I've tried have had an "awful reader". I wonder if there is some sort of website that reviews/user rates audiobooks? Hmm...

Happy 2010!

What great finishes you had in 2009, Melissa! I love audio books too and maybe I need to start listening while stitching. I usually listen while driving to and from work but maybe if I listened, instead of watching the boob tube, I'd get more done. I hope your New Year is wonderful, my friend!

Beautiful, beautiful accomplishments, Melissa! I enjoyed all the pictures and the inspiration, but I really liked the extra touch (and idea) of learning which audio books you listened to while stitching. Great idea! I'm going to have to borrow that idea for 2010.

I'm so glad that I got to know you and gained a new friend in 2009. I wish you health, happiness, and lots of stitchy time in 2010!

Happiest of New Years to you, Melissa!!

So many beautiful pieces, I can't pick just one - I love them all!

Audio books are my favorite - I have one going constantly - while I am cleaning, cooking, driving, etc. I love that each piece brought back the memory of the book you were listening to. As much as I love to listen to books, when I pick up my stitching I watch tv or a movie to occupy my time.

I look forward to seeing what samplers you choose for this new year.

Happy New Year, Melissa!

Some wonderful stitching and they are all finished as well ! I really must do something with my pile waiting to be framed or finished into something :) Happy New Year !

What an amazing array of stitching you have accomplished this year! Such a beautiful collection! Thanks for the inspiration.

Oh Melissa, your finishes are so beautiful, all of them! Thanks for sharing them in a one post like this. I just love everything you stitch. I'm determined to get something bigger finished this year too.

I'm still listening to the Lord of The Rings audiobook, I think audiobooks are a wonderful companion. But I often just sit and stitch without a sound, as I need the quiet time too :)

WOW stitched a TON of beautiful designs in 2009. Thank you for sharing (AND enabling, LOL!!!)
I'm easily swayed also; it's just too easy to not be.
I don't know how to do a "collage" yet either but I like the individual photos that I can click on to see larger anyway.
thanks again for sharing...happy stitching in '10!

Happy New Year, my friend. Wow, I really enjoyed seeing your 2009 finishes. They are all truly lovely, and the have a knack for choosing perfect ones.
I discovered audio books recently, too. For some reason, I don't stitch much while listening though.

What a beautiful collection of samplers that you have finished. I also love the how you have posted the audiobook that you were listening to at the time. Did you enjoy Jonathon Strange, I keep telling my son to read it. - Sandra.

Gorgeous stitching! I love samplers too and have just found audio books thru another stitching friend. Multi tasking that way and it is relaxing to listen and stitch vs. watching tv and stitching. Happy New Year and I look forward to your list for 2010. pj in Iowa

I Queen of Sampler finishes!!! Hear the stitching crowd roar!! Beautiful work and what a super idea of listing the audio books, may I steal this idea? lol!
I am following now and will enjoy checking in every day!

I enjoyed looking at all your 2009 finishes, and there were quite a few. They are all wonderfully stitched.

I, too, listen to audiobooks on my iPod while I stitch, and have enjoyed so many more books than I would have had time to read otherwise. I'm listening to a relatively new narration of Jane Eyre, which is wonderful. The narrator is Juliet Stevenson, and she did a great job of it. You may want to have a listen if you don't already have it in your library. =)

I see you stitched the Friendship Sampler by BOF. It is a wonderful design, and I would love to have the opportunity to stitch it sometime. If you still have the design, would you be willing to sell or consider a chart loaning/trade or copy?

Congratulations on your 100th post. Here's wishing you a 100 more many times over. I enjoy reading your blog, and your beautiful finishes keep me motivated in my own stitching.

Best wishes to you in 2010,
