The Dog Days of Summer

We have been in a record breaking (read 'not-since-decades') heat wave. Last week it peaked at around 35 C (95 F). That's very hot for this part of the country! But I'm not complaining! I would rather have the heat and sun than the rain and chill, which we have had our share of in past summers.

All I needed to do was to make sure we water our gardens, like so...!

One watering can for you, one watering can for me, and the flowers will keep on blooming.

I love the girls' outfits, don't you?
The funky bolero jacket over a very gypsy skirt.

I love this polka dotted number with the apron, very 'me'.

Stitching this beauty was a challenge, with all the colour changes and the heat wave. I now understand when some of you have said it was too hot to stitch! At 3pm today, I put down my needle and can gaze with satisfaction. I love this piece!

Friendship Sampler
by Birds of a Feather

While I stitched this, I listened to The Help by Kathryn Stockett. It is absolutely superb! Please go and get the book to read or listen to. I think I heard about this on Nicole's and Kellie's blog awhile ago. It is such a great story, and is beautifully narrated. While the topic is a difficult one to listen to (at least for me) - about the civil rights struggle in the 1960's in the US - it is such a great story. In the case of the audio book, it was mainly narrated by 3 women and they did such a great job. The story was mesmerizing.

Well, I am so happy that I have had the good fortune to get my hands on the Friendship Sampler (thanks again to my stitching pal) and that it's now finished. While I was "putting out the call" for the chart to the Stitching Universe a few months ago, I had pledged this:

"If I can get hold of this OOP chart, I will do a Travelling Friendship Tour with this chart." So, if you are interested please leave a comment and I'll see what we can arrange!

Lastly, I leave you a funny photo of Mr Julius wanting to "get in the frame" while I was setting up the shot. He moved so fast. Luckily I stopped him before he ran off with it. He has a funny habit of taking things down to his 'lair'. When my mom was visiting, he took one of her shoes (plastic Croc) downstairs and it took us awhile to figure out where it went!

Oh, almost forgot - this is the last thing I promise! Please go and wish Terri a Happy 50th! Her Birthday is Aug 5 and she's also starting a SAL on SB's Sail Away too. I'm sure she would love to get Happy Birthday comments! I've gotten to know Terri a bit since starting my blog - she's such a nice person! Happy 50th, young lady!

I can't hang around my longer. My office is upstairs and I'm melting! Till next time, thank you for visiting and sharing your thoughts. Enjoy the week!

Michelle, this is absolutely beautiful! I love this sampler, with the pretty colors and attention to detail! I would so love to be on that traveling list!

Hope you get the chance to cool down. We have several days lately in the cooler temps and I love it. But summer is raring it's hot ugly head for later in the week, with temps high again and humidity! UGH!!

I think it would be great fun to stitch this one. Put me on the list for the traveling chart too!

Mr. Julius is so cute. We often find socks that have been carried downstairs by our little cat Cheddar. When she find something to carry around she gets a little nutty.

Beautiful, Melissa! I love that sampler and it's been on my list for a long time but I never could find it! Ebay proved to be too rich for my tastes too so I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to be on the traveling list.

Oh, and I think we were sisters in a previous life, I mean, we have the same taste in many, many things! I love that about a friend...

Awesome job, Michelle! You beat me to the finish line - Julie's on vacation and (one more week to be gone) and isn't stitching while away so her girl isn't done yet!

Thanks for the birthday wishes and the sweet gifts - you're a doll and I thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Wow! It is absolutely gorgeous! Congratulations on the finish! Sadly, I have not worked on mine in two weeks - couple more commitment pieces and then I will go back to it!

Congratulations on a beautiful finish!! I love it! What cute outfits the gals have. I love BOAF stuff-wish they were still designing!

I am so glad you enjoyed "The Help"; my daughter and I keep raving about it to everybody. My mother just got it from the library and we can't wait for her to read it, but agree with you that the audio book is just incredible. Oh, if only every book was even 1/2 as good!

Try to stay cool!

Melissa, congrats on your beautiful finish! I would love to be included on your traveling list. That sounds like so much fun. I love BOAF designs and that is one that I have not been lucky enough to get ahold of yet. :)

I am so glad you enjoyed The Help. I too, thought it was fabulous, though difficult. I loved Minnie. I think she was my favorite. I listened to it too, and the narration really made that story come alive. I love a good book-audio or otherwise.

Hope it gets a little cooler. The weather is really strange this summer. We, fortunately, had the coolest July in history. Some days the temperature was barely 70. Unheard of here in KY at this time of the year. I think we must have your cooler weather, and we have sent you our warmer temps. :) Try to stay cool. Hope you have a wonderful week. :)

Your Frienship Sampler is too cute, I love how you did the date and your initials :-)

Your Julius is too funny! I love orange kitties, they are different and wonderful!

Stay cool, we're looking forward to over 100 degree weather here all week :-/

Hi Michelle, your friendship sampler is to die for, literally. I have had my eye on this pattern for quite a while. I can see your list of traveling friends is getting long, but if there is still room, please add my name to the growing list. Love your little buddy,(kitty-kat) reminds me of a creamcicle. Did I spell that right? It looks funny. Anyway, congrats on finishing such a neat sampler. Kindly....

Oh Melissa, what a wonderful finish. It must have been a lot of fun to stitch it (besides the heat). This piece is so beautiful and it's a pity that it's OOP.

Congrats on a wonderful finish!! Love this pattern...the girls are so cute and I love that big giant flower in the middle. Please count me in for the travelling pattern if the list isn't too long.

Stay cool...I can try to send some SF
fog your way?! :)

What a beautiful sampler. I can see why you feel so satisfied after stitching it.

Sorry you have some hot weather, it's never pleasant. Although our weather is cool, we haven't had some decent rain now for months and everyone is dry and unhappy. Please send some rain here!

I love the idea of a travelling friendship sampler. Please add me to your list. Thanks.

I would love to be part of the TF Tour!

I'm a long time lurker but I'd like to say how lovely your work is. I read "The Help" recently as well and it was a very good story.

Lovely work on your FS and well done on finishing it through all that hot weather. We're averagaing about 14degrees C at the moment, so I'm just dreaming of temps in the mid 30s. :)

Don't cats want to have a look and sniff at everything? As long as Mr Julius didn't carry your gorgeous sampler away!

What have you got planned next to do?

Melissa, I'd love to take part in the traveling Friendship sampler! That would be so cool! I just love how yours came out -- the colors are so great! Are you going to share your color changes???

I loved The Help as well -- I also listened to it, and it grabbed me from the start. Such a wonderful book, and so well read!

I love this piece! You did a wonderful job. Yes I would love to be on that OOP traveling list! I really hope the chart surfaces soon.

Have a great day!

That is a very pretty sampler. I would love to be on the list but I live far far away on the not-so sunny Isle of Ireland...
If I can't be on the list, I would quite happily settle for some of your sun ;-)

Come on, share please...any more rain and I will turn into a mermaid!!!

Wow, you finished this one quickly! It looks beautiful. I would love to be added to the traveling list.

As we are in Virginia, we do have those "too hot to stitch" days. The humidity is what gets us. You put your makeup on and it just melts right off :-)

I'll have to add "The Help" to my list at the library. I love to listen to books - driving, stitching, cleaning or cooking I usually have a book going.

Enjoy your day.
