Flowers in Bloom!

It's a beautiful sunny day outside and inside, I have a bunch of flowers in bloom. Ta-da! A finish! So happy happy happy!

Friendship Gathering
from "A Fine Collection" book
by Blackbird Designs
Linen used is Nightingale by Birds of a Feather with recommended floss

So, what's next? Today I have hauled out my charts, floss and linens so I hope to get a few things kitted up. My room looks like a small explosion has happened. Hopefully I can get everything put away by the evening!

I had been hoping to stitch The Earth Sampler since it came out but now it'll have to wait awhile. For those who've followed my blog you'd know why. I have updated my wish list blog and put it on the list. I will also set up a trade blog in the near future so maybe I can trade for this chart. If anyone has finished stitching the Earth Sampler and sees something on my blog that you might want to stitch, just drop me an email.

Yesterday I found a pot of lovely flowering bulbs. I think it's some type of snowdrops but I'm not sure.
Such a pretty cap for a fairy, don't you think?

I'm going to rush off now and make the most of this wonderful day. I hope you are enjoying the beginning of Spring (or Autumn) in your part of the world. The weather is up and down here too but we lucked out on a sunny weekend.

Oh, one last thing as I always like to ask questions - I have not used any linens or floss from Vickki Clayton before. Yes, I know. Remember, I'm still a relative newbie. If you have any likes, dislikes about the linens and floss, could you share? For example, what are some good colours in linen?

Have a great week, everyone. I found more wonderful blogs to visit yesterday but longer visits will have to wait for a rainy day! Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Melissa,

What a great finish! It's really cheerful and pretty, congratulations on getting it done :)

I'd be happy to let you have my ES chart when I'm done, unless someone who has already finished it offers in the meantime.

Re: HDF - I absolutely love the silks, which are wonderful to work with. The premium silks are perfect for 28ct and 32ct fabric, as you only need one strand for good coverage. The regular silks are great on higher counts, although I've used them on 32ct (one strand and two strands) very successfully. Colours are lovely and they are so reasonably priced. I like them because they don't shred like some makes, you can use the silk almost right up to the end of the length. Plus, all the variegated silks have solid component colours, so you can mix and match for e.g. a monochrome sampler.

Regarding the HDF linen, I've tried it, but am not too keen so far. I find that one strand of regular silk isn't quite enough on the 35ct, but haven't tried two strands or premium, so I might revise my opinion if I do. It just doesn't really suit my in hand stitching style, I think, although I'm stitching on it for a RR and it's going reasonably well, so maybe I just need to get used to it. For colours, Jackalope is a good all-purpose neutral and the Cream is very pretty.

Sorry for the super-long comment! Enjoy the rest of your weekend :)

I love your finish. So perfect for the springtime! I have also used Vikki's silks too and like them quite a bit. I have not tried the linen as of yet, but her silks are great (and a great price).

Hi, just visiting your blog and that is a beautiful design by Blackbird Designs. I have seen this book for sale online before and it has been on my wish list. I just love the pansies here. You did a great job. Will you be making into a pillow or framing?
Vicki Claytons silks are a great price. I have some kitted with a sampler called Dutch Beast. Haven't started it yet but the colors are pretty.

Oh Melissa, your finish is a dream. Congratulations!
I stitch my Beatrix Potter sampler. with HDF silks and they are wonderful to stitch with. But I have no experience with their linens because I only stitch on Zweigart fabrics.
The flowers might be snowflakes, they are similar to snowdrops but slightly bigger.

Very pretty! Make sure to post a pic after you have framed it.

Nice to get some info on the silks and linen. I've never used them either.

Congrats on that very, very beautiful finish! I'm one of the very few people who have not stitched or does not own Earth Sampler, or youwould have been welcome to it. I'll keep my eye on your wish list, though! Enjoy the Spring!

What a beautiful finish. I love VC silks and use them a lot when I can, like Karen V I think the regular are great on higher counts, especially 1/1.

I think your flowers are snowdrops, they are very pretty.

This is so lovely Melissa! A friend gave me this chart in a kit form, she'd gotten in Missouri at some LNS there. Then it came out in the book, which I had to get of course, so many wonderful designs in there (and I see you've done some already!)....and yet, have I done it yet? NO! Need to get stitching on it already!!
You have wonderful taste in your stitching projects ;)
Hugs!

Wow! Love your finish. Those flowers are awesome! I wish I could help you re: HDF and Earth Sampler. Earth Sampler seems to be very popular with the stitchy community right now. Have seen a ton of finishes. Maybe someone will pass it on to you!

What a great finish! Congratulations!

Regarding Vicki's linens and silks.... I think her linens are absolutely fabulous. They're now my favorite. Her 35 count is as easy to work on as most 32 counts, so don't be scared off by the higher count.

Her silks are a great value for what they cost. They do have a tendency to tangle (though this better with the new silks she's doing) but even if they do tangle, a bit of Thread Heaven works wonders. Her range of colors is incredible. And I've always been VERY happy with the contact I've had with her. :D

Beautiful finish, Melissa. Just lovely. I like Vikki's silks. You can't beat the price and her service is great. I will say that I used one of her reds on the Red House Sampler and it wasn't colorfast. I had to rinse like crazy to salvage it and it still shows a bit of bleeding.

Melissa, Flowers in Bloom is gorgeous! Congratulations on your finish. I love kitting things up...that sounds like a wonderfully fun time. ES is on my list too. Isn't it a beautiful sampler? I have several of the HD silks and I really like them. I have them in both spools and skeins. The spools are wonderful if you are doing a large project in one color. Her service is great. I have not tried her fabrics, but I do really like the quality of the silks.
